The materials, which were to help enhance the delivery of quality and accessible education to children in the municipality, included text books of subjects from primary one to primary six, furniture for pupils and teachers, white boards amongst others estimated at GHc 50,000.

The beneficiary schools included Pong Tamale Experimental Primary School, Pong Tamale Anglican Primary School, Jana Rabaniya Primary School, Savelugu Experimental Primary School (A and B).

PAORP-VWC, which is a local non-governmental organization (NGO), with support from EDUCO, a Spain-based NGO, has been committing resources in the last few years to fight illiteracy, malnutrition, diseases, poverty and forced marriages in some parts of the country.

Mr Albert Terradellas, Director of International Cooperation at EDUCO, presented the items to beneficiary schools at Savelugu when he toured the Northern Region to assess the impact EDUCO-supported initiatives were making in the lives of the beneficiaries.

Mr Terradellas emphasized the need to educate young people saying this would help secure brighter future, not just for the children but for the larger society.

He challenged parents to take charge of their wards’ education rather than rely on the efforts of government and NGOs whose responsibilities were minimal.

Mr Alhassan Mustafa, Deputy Director of Education at the Savelugu/Nanton Municipality, who received the items on behalf of beneficiary schools, said efforts were being made to improve the performance of pupils at Basic Education Certificate Examinations in the municipality.

Dr Peter Ndonwi, Director of PAORP-VWC said his outfit was committed to enhancing the welfare of women and children, hence the need to aid in enlightening them to become key contributors to the development of society.
