Thai military governmentThe alleged military raid at Kantinka, according to the community members led to the arrest of three persons, including a woman who were subsequently handed over to the Kenyasi Police.
The three arrested suspects were Deborah Fosu, Kwabena Seth and Peter Effah, who have been granted bail after their statements were taken by the Police, and have been asked to report to the police tomorrow morning at8:00am.
According to the three suspects, they were demonstrating peacefully with red flags and bands to insist on their right to be resettled since the Kantinka community is directly being affected by the activities of Newmont.
They continued that the protest was against the background that Newmont Ghana Gold?has defied an initial agreement to complete the resettlement homes and move them in before work starts at Kantinka.
The resettlement project is yet to be completed but Newmont has commenced work there, thereby putting the lives of the community members in danger, hence the peaceful demonstration.
According to them, shortly after the commencement of their peaceful demonstration a contingent of armed Military personnel came around to arrest them and subsequently hand them over to the Kenyasi Police command.
However, a close source from the Newmont Ghana Gold Limited Ahafo debunked the use of military personnel to attack the Kantinka Community as alleged by the suspects.
The sources said the arrest was done by personnel of the Ghana Police Service in collaboration with the Company?s security personnel, indicating that the suspects had trespassed into the property of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited at Kantinka.
