African broadcaster Kwese TV launched new continental television channels in Ghana late Thursday with an ambition of telling better stories of African to the world.

KweseJoseph Hundah, President and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kwese TV, a multi-channel TV conglomerate, said during the launch of Kwese’s channels in Ghana.

He said his entity would encourage African producers to create world-class content to tell Africa’s positive story to the whole world, underscoring the importance of projecting the positive image of Africa on the international scene.

Hundah bemoaned the high prices in satellite TV and said his company was out there to challenge this with innovative and lower prices for African consumers.

The TV has its own channels in Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Malawi, Nigeria and Rwanda and also sublicensed content blocks and channels in over 15 countries across the continent and beyond.

Maxwell Dodd, Ghana Country Manager, said the company was in the process of creating indigenous African content that would showcase the identity of the continent globally.

“We don’t want to go on airing only international production, international sports and international entertainment, no; we are going to put African content on the global map such that the world will have a positive impression about what pertains in Africa,” Dodd said. Enditem
