New iPhone App (Supposedly) Controls Your Dreams

IPHONE DREAM APP

Dreaming can be a mixed bag. Sometimes dreams are terrifying—like when you show up to your first day of school without any pants, or you find yourself in one of those Saw movies. But other times dreams are amazing—like when you’re wildly successful at whatever it is you do, or you get to have sex with a Victoria’s Secret model.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to control your dreams and make sure you always have the good kind.

Or is there? (How’s that for suspenseful writing? Man, I’m such a pro.)

A new iPhone app created by Japanese advertising agency Hakuhodo is promising users a lifetime of good dreams. It’s called Yumemiru, which translates roughly to “See the Dream.” You can download it for free fromthe iTunes app store.

So how does it work?

Well, you choose from one of 8 basic types of dreams, which include scenarios such as taking a walk in the woods or on a beach, becoming extremely wealthy, having the ability to fly, or, yes, even getting busy.

After you select your preferred dream, the app waits until it figures you’ve probably reached the deep REM sleep stage, at which point you’re subconscious is most easily influenced. Then it starts emitting audio cues that somehow stimulate certain types of dreams. (So, I guess if you selected a sexy dream, you’re listing to porn while you sleep?)

Sounds cool, right?

Well, maybe. But I’m going to think twice before handing my subconscious over to a company whose job it is to sell me stuff I don’t necessarily need.
