Members of the Federation of Dangme Youth Associations (FDYA), have chided President John Mahama for his refusal to recognise Nene Atsure Benta III as the Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission ? as demanded by the Regional House of Chiefs ? describing his conduct as ?gross disrespect for chiefs in the region.?

According to them, President Mahama was petitioned on March 3, 2014 by the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to as a matter of urgency, confirm Nene Atsure Benta III as the Chairman of the Greater Accra Lands Commission. But the President, they said, had since failed to honour the noble call by the chiefs ?who are the custodians of lands in the Greater Accra Region?.

President of FDYA, Ebenezer Dzabak, registering the displeasure of his group at a press conference in Accra on Monday said, ?President Mahama has shown gross disrespect and contempt to our chiefs by refusing to heed to their request to confirm Nene Atsure Benta III as the substantive chairman of Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission.?

He expressed worry that should the President move on with his ?disrespectful decision? and not heed to the call by the chiefs, the cases of land disputes, which mostly end up decimating so many innocent lives within and around the capital, might not cease.

According to Mr. Ebenezer Dzabak, the Ga chiefs believe that Nene Atsure Benta III is the person who has what it takes to solve the numerous land disputes in the region. To this end, he has called on President Mahama to do the confirmation with immediate effect, and to as well completely reconstitute the Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission to reflect the Ga and Dangme identities ?as done in the other nine regions of Ghana per their cultural dynamisms?.

He has also entreated Mahama to have Nii Okaidzah Adamafio ?  who was recently inaugurated as the Chairman of the Greater Accra Lands Commission ? sacked.

Furthermore, he has called on President Mahama to urgently offer an unqualified apology to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, particularly to the President of the house, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, for not respecting them.

FDYA is a coalition of youth groups in Ada, Agortsom, Manya Krobo, Yilo Krobo, Osudoku, Shai, Prapram and Ningo.
