The Ghana Police Service has prepared to enforce the compliance of preventive measures to maximise security before, during and after the flagbearer election of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) slated for Saturday, February 23, 2019.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency and signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police David Eklu, the Director-General off the Public Affairs Directorate, explained that unauthorised persons found carrying offensive weapons including gun, knives, and machetes within the parameters of voting and collation centres would be apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law.

It said no motorbike, whether registered or unregistered, would be allowed anywhere close to a voting or collation centre.

“The Police would be in-charge of security and no unauthorized security arrangements would be tolerated,” it stated.

“The Police is urging NDC party executives, delegates, sympathisers and the public to cooperate with the it to ensure successful and peaceful elections”.

The statement also urged the public, particularly those with vital information to enhance the maintenance of law and order during the election, to inform the Police through its emergency numbers and social media handles.

Seven candidates are contesting the election, which would be held at the constituency level, across the nation.

They are Former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Alban Sumani Bagbin, Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Professor Joshua Alabi, Mr Sylvester Mensah, Mr Goosie Tanoh and Alhaji Nurudeen Iddrisu.
