The National Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes to call on members of the party not to indulge in any form of violence, even in the face of extreme provocation from members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A statement signed by the party?s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said the police have confirmed that one supporter of the NDC was stabbed at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra adding that the party has also received complaints of unprovoked attacks on its supporters across the country.

?The NDC views these unfortunate developments as threats to the country?s peace and national security. We believe that the conduct of these NPP supporters emanates from leadership failure,? the statement stated stressing that the NDC will not want to believe that the action by these perpetrators is a confirmation of the NPP?s ?all die be die? declaration by their flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

The party scribe noted that the NDC has confidence and trust in the security agencies and, while commending them for their efforts in curbing any potential disturbances, ?we urge them to step up their operations to protect lives and property.?

?The leadership of the NDC wishes to reassure its supporters that the party has been rightly declared winners by the Electoral Commission (EC), the only body constitutionally mandated to declare Presidential results after election.?

The party against this backdrop appeals to its numerous followers all over the country to remain calm and resolute and restrain from any act of provocation and retaliation that have the tendency to trigger clashes and violence in the country.
