Folks, I am always intrigued by stories of this sort:

?A former Polish war refugee who met Prince Charles in Canada has said he likened some Nazi actions in Europe to those of Russia?s Vladimir Putin.

Marienne Ferguson was speaking after meeting Prince Charles at a Nova Scotia immigration museum where she works?.

Speaking from China, President Putin?s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told the BBC he was ?not commenting right now? on the remarks.

Phew!! Undermining Putin and painting him black? What for?

No need to overstretch my imagination as far as history is concerned. Those who know the history of Russia will quickly dismiss this kind of impression of Russia and its leader as misguided, misplaced, and irrelevant as far as the workings of contemporary politics are concerned.

Russia is what it has been all these years because it is Russia!! No vile propaganda will change its status or circumstance on the global stage.

The Germans know what Russia did to them to cut short their imperial ambitions. How did they feel about three weeks ago when the Russians celebrated the anniversary of their defeat of the German forces invading their country in World War II?

Those who don?t know that history will deceive themselves that they can place Russia in the ambit of contemporary misguided politics of novices and undermine Russia in a vain attempt to overshadow it in political discourse.

Truth be told, world politics has been done by those who know how to do it without necessarily indulging in cheap talk but ensuring that their voices remain stentorian, even if discordant.

We may have the benefit of hindsight to admit that Russia started reasserting its strength after defeating Nazi Germany and moving on to prove to the so-called lovers of freedom that it is not as evil as their misguided imaginations would have them believe.

Meantime, things are happening; and they will jolt the Russian haters all the more:

?Russia?s President Vladimir Putin has signed a multi-billion dollar, 30-year gas deal with China.

The deal between Russia?s Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) has been 10 years in the making.

Russia has been keen to find an alternative energy market for its gas as it faces the possibility of European sanctions over the crisis in Ukraine.

No official price has been given but it is estimated to be worth over $400bn?.

Obviously, Russia is going where its bread will be buttered. The US and its EU allies can?t intimidate Putin, even though they may ratchet up their propaganda of hate and scare-mongering against him and his administration.

This deal with China is significant and will further tie both countries and boost China?s rise to global prominence as the strongest economy. The writing is clear on the wall that the momentum is picking up; and those who have all these years attempted to undermine or write off the Chinese rise to economic power should begin revising their notes.

And we acknowledge Russia?s own steady move, especially in association with Brazil and the other countries grouped together under the trading association called ?BRICS? (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

Even as these changes occur right in front of our eyes, the nay-sayers are digging in to create the impression that Putin is a failure. Probably, they are doing so to run away from the reality that stuns them. It has always been so for them.

By the time they wake up to face that reality, they will realize too late that Chinglish (Chinese English) and Russinglish (Russian English) have taken centre-stage in global affairs. That is when they will scratch their heads in remorse as they struggle to cope with the change.

Then, it will be time for them to join the ?chukunchong? waggon or be further left behind!!

I shall return?
