Navrongo Central MP Simon Akibange Aworigo has renewed calls for the government to complete the long-stalled Navrongo Youth Resource Centre, a flagship project meant to boost sports and skills development in Ghana’s Upper East Region.

The facility, which features a green pitch, VIP stands, and auxiliary buildings, has remained unfinished for years despite similar projects being completed nationwide.

Aworigo told Asaase News the centre would be transformative for local youth, calling it “a vital springboard for the many talented young people in Navrongo.” Originally launched under the previous administration, the project’s stagnation has drawn increasing criticism from residents. In 2022, youth activists launched the #CompleteNavrongoStadiumNow campaign and staged protests, highlighting how the delay hurts emerging football clubs like Kassena-Nankana United that lack proper home grounds.

The MP confirmed he has submitted multiple petitions to the National Youth Authority and Ministry of Youth & Sports, including recent discussions with Sports Minister Kofi Adams. “I’m not resting on this issue,” Aworigo said. “I’ve been engaging the authorities consistently and will keep doing so until we see results.” The push comes as Ghana seeks to strengthen regional sports infrastructure ahead of upcoming international tournaments.
