Sentinel-1a will play an important role in responding to natural disasters

Natural disasters killed 248 people, injured 470 others and caused property losses of nearly 18,300 billion Vietnamese dong (820.6 million U.S. dollars) in 2016, Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced Monday.

The natural disasters, mainly heavy rain, floods and cold spells, also destroyed nearly 4,600 houses and damaged 361,700 others; damaged 258,300 hectares of paddy rice, 113,200 hectares of other crops and 49,800 hectares of aquaculture ponds; and killed 52,100 cattle, nearly 1.7 million fowls and over 1,000 tons of seafood.

In 2015, natural disasters stroke 52 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide, claiming 157 lives, injuring 199 people, and causing losses of 5,400 billion Vietnamese dong (242 million dollars). Enditem
