Following ethnic related violent clashes that claimed several lives in Nasarawa State in recent times, Governor Tanko Al- Makura today inaugurated a high powered Commission of Inquiry aimed at finding the root cause of the crisis for the purpose of maintaining lasing peace in the communities and the state.

There have been various crises in the state the latest being between the Eggon and Mighili ethnic groups in Jenkwe Development Area which occurred on 21st November this year claiming many lives and property worth millions of Naira. Thousands of residents were equally displaced as a result of the violence conflict.

 Inaugurating the Seven- Man Commission led by Justice Rilwan Maiwada, Governor Al- makura among other terms told them to ascertain the immediate and remote cause of the crises, ascertain the degree of human and material loses; identify individuals and groups connected to the disturbances; apportion blame where necessary; recommend appropriate punishment and any other useful information relevant to the terms of their assignment.

The governor said ?The ugly trend of communal animosity cannot and should not be allowed to become the trademark of our beloved state. All people of goodwill should therefore condemn this dastardly act. This is more so because the victims are usually innocent people who struggle day and night to make ends meet.?

Continuing, the Governor acknowledged that it is the responsibility of government to protect lives and property of the people assuring that everything humanly possible would be done to ensure that such violence does not re-occur in the state.
