Namibia faces challenges in the fight against COVID-19, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supply shortage, said Namibia Health Ministry’s deputy executive director, Petronella Masabane.

“We rely on friends like China who have managed to give us assistance since the commencement of the outbreak and we are grateful,” said Masabane during a video conference between Namibia’s COVID-19 pandemic task team and Chinese experts from Nanjing, Jiangsu province on Tuesday in Windhoek.

Namibia’s fight against COVID-19 has been boosted by the Chinese embassy in the country which donated 1,000 fast testing kits as well as additional assistance from both the Jack Ma Foundation.

According to the pandemic task team, Namibia seeks to equip all 14 regions in the country with the right gear, to contain the spread of the virus.

Currently, Namibia has recorded 16 positive cases, of which three patients have recovered, while no deaths have occurred. Enditem
