Mutawe, who edged Deo Akope to the grand Mug of Mugs in December last year, was once again in imperious form as he grabbed both the February and March Mug titles on Thursday.

It was Mutawe’s super iron play and short game that helped him leapfrog Akope to the first quarter gong. Akope won the Jan Mug with a bogey-free round of 66 but Mutawe’s two inspired rounds of 66 apiece left the 18 local professionals in his wake.

“These are fruits of hard work. I am happy to maintain this winning run,” said the soft-spoken Mutawe.

With the professionals done with their bit, the spotlight will be on the amateurs when they wrestle for the 24 Mugs at stake by MTN in the February (12) and March (12) competitions scheduled for today and tomorrow.
