The race for the Member of Parliament seat for the Agona West Constituency in the Central Region has become keener as a musician and social worker, Mr. George William Dickson has also declared his ambition to contest the seat as an Independent Candidate.

Mr. William Dickson who is the Founder and Executive Director of Rhythms of African Music Foundation in Ghana and South Africa and also President of Music Council of Ghana said if given the nod, he will promote the entertainment industry by ensuring passage of laws that would protect the heritage and culture of Ghanaians.

According to Mr. Dickson who is also the President of the Musicians and Dancers Association and the General Secretary of the Music Rights Society of Ghana pointed out that culture is the identity of every society, and that it is now time for Ghanaians to get somebody to Parliament to champion this cause.

Also the President of the 2014 Ghana National Supporters Union to South Africa during the World Cup, Mr. Dickson hinted that the entertainment industry remains one untapped sector that when harnessed would contribute significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product [GDP], more than even Cocoa and Gold.

A native of Agona Abodom, his announcement seemed tohave sent shivers in the spine of many, including the incumbent NDC MP for the area Obeng Inkoom who is also from the same town, as well as the NPP aspiring Member, Mrs. Cynthia Morrison.
