Charles Ofori Antipem

MTN Ghana has presented a cash amount of GH¢ 100,000, a plaque, and citation to a 26-year-old innovator, Charles Ofori Antipem, who emerged as the ultimate winner of the MTN Heroes of Change Season V. The GH¢ 100,000 is to support his work.

This industrious entrepreneur won with his invention, the science set also called the ‘mobile laboratory.’
The mobile laboratory is designed like the mathematical set and contains scientific tools like conductors, capacitors and cells.


His innovative science set and mobile laboratory redefines practical science education by shrinking a science laboratory into the size of a textbook.

Charles set up his company Dext Technology in Kumasi and has so far sold over 9,000 sets to government and private schools across Ghana.

The project has also seen 550 teachers trained, 370 schools reached, 11 people employed, and 10 businesses directly benefitting from this project which is 100% locally manufactured.

Three out of the remaining nine finalists received cash prize of GH¢ 30,000 while the other six finalists received Gh₵10,000 each on the night that was full of excitement, expression of gratitude and suspense.

The rest of the nine finalists were Diana Adjei, Rev Fr Akologo Dominic Alale Azumah, Justin Yelevielbayire, Mawusi Awity, Daniel Owusu Asiamah, Frank Abeku Adams, Benjamin Akinkang, David Hagan, and Louisa Enyonam Ansah.

Also Derick Omari, a young social entrepreneur and Afia Pokua of Adom FM took home special prize each. They received GH¢10,000 and hampers each.

The prize monies are meant to support the community projects of Charles Ofori Antipem, and the other winners.

The finalists are selfless individuals who have committed their resources to implementing projects in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment which are benefiting many in their communities.

Prior to the selection of the 10 finalists by an independent jury, a team was dispatched into the communities to authenticate and verify their projects.

Following the verification process, a report was presented to the Jury for further reviews after which the top 10 projects were selected.

The work of the finalists were filmed and featured in a 13 week television series which highlighted their activities.
In addition to the 10 finalists, MTN Ghana Foundation will also present Special Awards to selected media personnel and young heroes who are also driving change in their respective areas.

Speaking at the ceremony in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh, explained that MTN Foundation launched the MTN Heroes of Change in 2013 with the aim of identifying, showcasing and rewarding hardworking Ghanaians who are making meaningful contributions in their communities.

MTN Heroes of Change finalists from all seasons have demonstrated a commitment to brighten lives regardless of their own circumstances. They defied all odds to make lives comfortable for members of their communities.

•We all remember the amazing and touching story of last year’s winner , Naomi Esi Arku , who caters over 100 street children some of have some serious health implications.

•The efforts of Season 3 Hero Genevieve Basigha, a speech a speech impaired woman who provides education for disadvantaged deaf children cannot be forgotten.

•Madam Paulina Opei, winner of Season 2 shows the passion of a nurse who has dedicated her life to nurturing and providing education for orphans.

•In Season 1, we met one of Ghana’s best plastic surgeon Dr. Abrokwaa-Yankyera who provides free surgeries and gives hope to people with deformities.

This he said, as a digital provider leading the delivery of a bold new digital world, they are very eager to see how they can work together to push the transformation agenda in the country.

However, he commended the judges for their sterling work for the past five and for their inputs which have sustained and expanded the project-Dr Doris Dartey, Rev Albert Ocran and Mr. Sidney Casely Hayford.

The MTN Heroes of Change Season V which was held in a grand-style attracted artistes including Kuame Eugene, Rex Omar, Tagoe Sisters, Uncle Ato and Kwan Pa Band as the entertained guests with a splendid performance.
