“The confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our systems remain central to how we operate and serve our customers,” the statement read. MTN added that while the full extent of the breach is still being assessed, swift measures have been taken to safeguard its environment in line with established security protocols.
As part of its response, MTN Ghana has urged all customers to remain vigilant and adhere to standard cybersecurity practices. Customers are advised to update their MTN, MoMo, and banking applications, use strong and unique passwords, activate multifactor authentication, and avoid sharing sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, and one-time passwords (OTPs) through phone calls, text messages, or emails.
MTN Ghana reassured customers that protecting their personal information remains a top priority. “We are committed to containing and managing this matter carefully while keeping our customers and stakeholders informed,” the company stated.
