A Former Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development and newly appointed Deputy Central Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has funded the construction of a clinic facility at a cost of GH¢40, 000 to handle tuberculosis cases (TB) in the Municipality.

The GH¢40, 000 facility was inaugurated at Saltpond. The Global Fund started the said project to the foundation level, when the minister took over the cost of seeing to its completion.

It is established that reported cases of TB are high in the Municipality. In 2010, 143 new cases were recorded out of which 67 were cured, 58 completed treatment, 20 died and three clients defaulted.

Inaugurating the clinic, Mr Quansah announced plans by the government to convert Anomabo Health Centre into an Accident Centre to take care of victims of accidents on the Cape Coast and Mankessim highway.

He also commended doctors and nurses working in the municipality and said he would provide the necessary support to make their work easy.

Mr Quansah averred that efforts were being made to make the proposed Nursing Training School for Saltpond take off in September this year, adding that temporary accommodation had been acquired and accreditation was being worked on.
