Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Tuesday sent a message of condolence to his Tanzanian counterpart John Magufuli following the explosion of a fuel tanker that killed at least 71 people.

“We hear with deep feeling of shock and sadness the news of the loss of more than 70 human lives and many injuries following the explosion of a fuel tanker truck on Aug. 10 in Msamvu Community, Mrogoro, Tanzania,” Nyusi said in a message.

The tanker truck exploded while some people were stealing fuel from the depot, others were hit by the explosion while passing by.

“As we mourn with you for the lives lost after this tragic event, on behalf of the people, the Government of the Republic of Mozambique and myself, I would like to convey our most heartfelt condolences to the brother people of the United Republic of Tanzania, especially to the families of the perished and we wish rapid improvements to all the injured, “he said.

Nyusi added that “we remain confident that under the wise leadership of your execelence, the people of the United Republic of Tanzania will overcome the consequences of this disaster.” Enditem
