As the 6th of July 2013 draw nearer, organisers of Nigeria?s foremost beauty pageant, The Miss Nigeria have taken time to rebrand the event.

During a press briefing held recently at the Lagos office of the African Times Network (ATN), owners of the Miss Nigeria trademark, journalists were briefed on progress made so far and what attendees should expect at the event grand finale to be held at the Intercontinental Hotel Lagos on Saturday.

Speaking during the briefing, Zainab Ajadi of ATN noted, ?We want to use this medium to let the public know about the criteria we used in both the selection and eviction of contestants and, also let them know that we are running a reality TV show on Miss Nigeria.?

Creative Director of Miss Nigeria, Elohor Esien explained the process in detail. ?We started the casting with five states namely: Abuja, Lagos, Benin, Enugu and Port Harcourt with 200 girls on board until they were evicted till 100 and then we had Facebook vote and they were reduced to 50 girls.

?After a one-on-one interview with the girls we had a lot of them who are really pretty but that?s not just what we are looking for.?

According to Elohor, ?We are looking for the queen that can be the future president or ambassador.?

Elohor said that the remaining 21 girls are smart, intelligent and fit into this category.

Salomey Eferem of the Daar Communications said: ?The calibre of the queen should be someone that can represent Nigeria in the world. There are so many beauty pageants but this one creates a platform where the queen can have access to the president and national events.?

On progresses made regarding the reality show, the pageant Project Coordinator, Konnie Nwachukwu said: ?We?ve been with the girls and we went to Ekiti and Ijebu Ode. The girls enjoyed their stay.?

Nwachukwu revealed that evictions were made then.

?The eviction process has been very heart breaking after the eviction. We didn?t have the girls out; they can stay back and enjoy the show except that they will be behind the scene. We?ve explained to them that it?s not all about winning.?
