A Chinese-owned mining company Mingjie Stone on Monday donated food parcels to 200 families in the mining town of Karibib in western Namibia in a bid to alleviate the effects of a countrywide lockdown put in place to stop the further spread of COVID-19.
Many Namibians have been left food insecure after Namibia extended its partial lockdown until May 4.
The food parcels, which included tinned fish and maize-meal, will be distributed to the less privileged in Karibib which is one of the towns hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Karibib town council mayor Petrus Nabot, who received the donation on behalf of the people of Karibib, thanked the company for its contribution.
Mingjie Stone also said it will donate hand sanitizers and refreshments to the police enforcing the lockdown regulations in the town. Enditem
