This contribution is outlined in the fifth report of Burkina Faso Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) that reached Xinhua on Saturday in Ouagadougou.

According to the report, the government of Burkina Faso has transferred about 1.28 million U.S.dollars to mayoralties and regions.

Meanwhile, six out of the eight largest industrial mines have employed 5,721 nationals and 368 foreigners, the report said.

The remaining mining companies employ over 7,000 nationals against 474 foreigners.

It is also estimated that gold resources have contributed over 12 percent to Burkina Faso gross domestic product (GDP).

In June last year, the government of transition adopted new mining code that enables the West African country population to receive more benefits from mining industry than before.

The new code requires the mining industry to make 1 percent contribution of their monthly pre-tax turnover to a fund for population living close to mining sites. Enditem
