President John Evans Atta Mills

A faction within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR), has launched a blistering attack on President John Evans Atta Mills, describing him as the leading hypocrite in Ghana.

According to the group, which is loyal to the founder of the NDC, former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu, the deeds of President Mills suggest he is not forthright with issues in the country.

Speaking at an New Patriotic Party’s ‘People’s Forum’ at Duayaw Nkwanta at Tano North on Friday, the Brong Ahafo Communications Director of FONKAR, Chris Dugan, accused President Mills of disregarding the orders of the Supreme Court by reversing its verdict on the NPP National Chairman, Jake Obetesebi-Lamptey’s duly and legally acquired state property.

Mr. Dugan, who was flanked by the Ashanti Regional executives of FONKAR who also took turns to lambast the current administration, called on President Mills to resign his post honourably for treating the orders of the highest court of the land with contempt or face impeachment.

He described the president’s action as “disgraceful,” adding that it serves as a bad precedent for the nation’s democracy.

The FONKAR strongman said the GHc51.2million paid to NDC financier, Alfred Agbesi Woyome by the Mills administration as judgment debt showed the president’s insincerity since he stated that he would not be criminally-minded to order the payment of that money.

In view of the unprecedented corruption and the many financial scandals that have hit the Mills-Mahama administration, FONKAR pleaded with Ghanaians, especially the opposition, not to associate the NDC with the Mills-Mahama administration.

According to Chris Dugan, the NDC stands for probity and accountability and since the Mills administration has ignored the party’s ideologies, it will be wrong for Ghanaians to associate the two.

However, in a rather friendly response, Kwadwo Adjei Darko, a former Local Government and Rural Development Minister, asked FONKAR to break away from the current administration to form a new political party since the two (NDC and Mills government) cannot be separated.
