Military sources that does not want their names mentioned in print told our correspondent in Maiduguri that ” what actually happened was that we were asked to give security cover to the staff of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) technicians on repairs or rehabilitation mission of the damaged high tension cable wires by the boko haram insurgents around the village sometimes ago to repair the destroyed transmission cables along Damboa road then the military troops sighted groups of boko haram insurgents approaching or confronting them with suspicious mission”.

The sources added ?we were on the electric tower on surveillance of any perceived threat, while the staff of the TCN were on their repair work of the destroyed cables, when we sighted the boko haram insurgents coming in groups and we immediately opened fire on them?.

?We kept on firing but they insisted and continue moving towards our position, then our commander ordered the armored tanker to start opening fire. Still the boko haram insurgents continue coming unabated to come closer to the military until the commander ordered again the artillery to shell them, that was when we cleared them?, the source added.

Another military source said ?I personally counted 75 corpses of the Boko haram insurgents, while over 15 vehicles and several motorcycles were destroyed by the artillery?. However, a staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) who does not also want his name in print said that ” we came back to Maiduguri on flat tires, as their Hilux vehicle was > punctured by bullets”.

He said the military personnel have done a good job, as they have cleared all of the boko haram insurgents, adding that none of them escaped among the groups. ?I commended the army for the gallant work, if these
gallantry will continue, I believe the issue of Boko Haram insurgency will soon be a thing of the past in the state and region at large?, he added.
