Ghana midfielder Michael Essien featured in Michael Ballack?s farewell game on Wednesday.

Essien was on the winning side as a World select side coached by Jose Mourinho beat ?Friends of Michael Ballack? 4-3 in Leipzig.

The match which drew an impressive crowd of 45,000 was almost called off due to flooding in eastern Germany.

The game was in honour of Germany legend Michael Ballack who brought his illustrious football career to an end last year.

Bllack played for European giants Bayern Munich after excelling during a three-year period for Bayern Leverkusen.

He then left Germany to have a relative successful stint in England with Chelsea ? where he played under Jose Mourinho in a strong midfield trio alongside Michael Essien and Frank Lampard.

Her later returned to Leverkusen where he ended his club career after a string of niggle injuries.

Ballack also captained the Germany national team.

Baallack?s star playmates including Didier Drogba, Philip Lahm, Michael Essien, Ricardo Carvalho, Andriy Shevchenko, Florent Malouda, Torsten Frings, Miroslav Klose and Dietmar Hamman were all in action on Wednesday.

Germany coach Joachim Low was also amongst the headline names in the 45,000 crowd.

Essien is now heading to Ghana with a chunk of the stars that were on show on Wednesday for his own charity game in Accra terms;? ?Game of Hope? on Saturday.

The team of world stars are expected to arrive in Accra on Friday evening to kick start a chain of events to mark Essien?s second major charity event in Ghana within two years.
