Metropolis have pledged to provide police personnel deployed to the various banks to monitor the activities of people who transact business there with requisite resources to enable them operate effectively and efficiently.

?We know the work of the police is very critical, especially we working in the financial sector. So we think we should work hand-inhand with them to solve some of their problems,? they stated.

This came to light when members of the Western Regional Bank Managers Association paid a courtesy call on the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye at his office in Sekondi.

The visit was to, among others, officially welcome the new police commander to the region and discuss pertinent issues that would help cement the relationship that exist between the police and the banks in the region.

Even though the Ghanaian banking industry has in recent years witnessed significant transformation with the emergence of innovative products and services, it has also been hit by numerous criminal cases.

The bankers stressed the need for corporate institutions to be proactive in satisfying the needs of the security agencies, especially police personnel tasked to guard the financial institutions.

They were, however, not enthused with the attitude of some police personnel who allegedly roam during working hours at some banks.

Speaking on behalf the bank managers, Anderson Atakora Afrifa, the President of the association, noted that the bankers recognize the important role the police play as far as security at the various banks was concerned.

?We are therefore here to welcome you to the Western region and solicit your assistance to ensure the total security of our assets as banks,? he added.

DCOP Kofi Boakye bemoaned the unwillingness of some banks to prosecute fraud cases that occur in their institutions in an effort to protect their image.

He told the bankers that there could be internal mechanisms to investigate criminal cases at the banks to serve as deterrent to others who might plan to dupe the financial institutions.

He gave the assurance that the Police would continue to protect life and property, preserve peace, enforce laws and fight crime

in the country so that people could undertake their duties without fear.
