Merchant Bank workers across the country have begun a nationwide strike.

The workers are carrying out an earlier threat after the bank refused to reinstate the Chairman of the local union of the workers Rev. Jonas Koranteng Smart.

According to the workers, Mr. Koranteng Smart was dismissed wrongfully a position the National Labour Commission upheld and directed the bank to reinstate him accordingly.

The bank has subsequently ignored the directive; hence the workers decision to start the strike today.

After a meeting with top management of the bank this morning, the General Secretary of the Union of Industry Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF), Kofi Davor declared the strike.
