Strike action by the Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) – Legon has turn students of the University of Ghana into cleaners as this picture is evidently showing.Kitchen and bathhouse of residents of the ‘traditional Halls’ and its annexes have not been scrubbed since Friday.Students took it upon themselves to have the place cleaned up since it was stinking.
Speaking to OMGghana.com ,Augustine Kabo, the chairman of UG TEWU, said the union has being having series of meeting to let the government pay them and hence have been absent at their posts.Kabo said they were supposed to be paid two months back in October last year ,three months arrears in December and three months in February, however none of the payments have been made.
Meanwhile, porters at Mensah Sarbah Hall annex C&D have admitted the union is on a strike action and hence are not working (taking keys and responsibilities in the hall) although they are present at their post-Probably that is what the union refer to ‘EMERGENCY MEETINGS’.
If students have to work out like SHS students, then i guess the school has a long way to go to reach great heights. Generally, Tewu handles everything that ensures the smooth running of both academic and social activities in the school from lecture halls to the residence halls. If this strike action dubbed ‘emergency meetings’ continues, academic and social activities would be at a standstill in the school.
OMGghana.com would follow-up on the story as the week activities begin on the campus.

Accra, Feb. 19, GNA – Members of South Ghana Conference (SGC) of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) on Sunday spent several hours in a massive clean-up exercise on some principal streets of Accra.
The exercise which was done in a collaboration with Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) was aimed at addressing some of the environmental and public health hazards as a result of the recent floods that hit the metropolis.
The exercise also formed part of the activities aimed at commemorating the 125th anniversary celebration of the church.
The members led by their pastors de-silted gutters, cleared weeds, swept and picked up plastic waste for recycling from Kwame Nkrumah Circle through Osu to La Hospital main road.
Pastor Anthony Kessie, President of SGC, said as Christians it was their duty to ensure that the environment was always clean as cleanliness is next to Godliness.
He said it was about time church activities were not limited to the spiritual growth of their members only but to ensure that they took part in ventures that help the people to live in a sound and healthy environment and to reduce the incidence of diseases like cholera and other communicable diseases.
“We are all citizens of the country and apart from seeking our spiritual well-being we must also think of our physical development and play our part in the building of the nation,” he said.
Pastor Kessie advised Ghanaians to desist from throwing debris into gutters which results in flooding when it rained.
Dr Alfred Vanderpuije, Mayor of Accra, said the enterprise for AMA was to ensure cleanliness of which sanitation was the top most priority of the assembly.
He said there was the need to come up with strategies to maintain and sustain such an exercise adding that this could be done with the effective participation of the youth.
He expressed concern about the fast rate at which people were turning drains into waste dump sites and called for stiffer punishments for those who go contrary to the city’s bye-laws.
The Mayor gave assurance of the Assembly’s readiness to enforce its environmental and sanitation by-laws and to prosecute offenders.
He commended the church for the exercise and called on other churches to follow the example to rid the city of filth and choked gutters to allow free flow of water in drains.

In the images belowEvrais clearly unhappy with Suarez’s actions. Those of you who do not follow the english premiership, Suarez served an eight-match ban after the english FA found him guilty of racially abusing the French left-back Evra in a 1-1 Anfield draw with Manchester United in October.
Suarez is simply a disgrace and very unprofessional in his ways.

THE 2008 Presidential candidate for the Convention People’s Party, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who is now seeking to become the flagbearer of a more formidable political force, Progressive People’s Party, made a triumphant entry into the University of Cape Coast last Friday, 10th February, 2012 to meet with members of the Progressive Youth Movement, which represents the Tertiary wing of the PPP for their inaugural ceremony.
Hundreds of students stormed the Valco Hall JCR, where the event was held to catch a glimpse of the man popularly called “Edumawura” and also described by many as the most innovative political personality in Ghana today. The personal body guards of Dr. Nduom had a tough time controlling the crowd who made frantic efforts to shake hands with him.
Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom who did not do so well in the 2008 election told the crowd that he came to announce his readiness and determination to work hard to capture power in 2012 from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and also break the syndrome of one-way NDC/NPP dominance, whose stewardships have not been able to bring about the true development that the masses have been looking for.
Dr. Nduom assured the students that when he becomes president, he would focus on the total eradication of malaria, free compulsory education, job creation, strengthening of and separation of powers in state institutions with specific reference to offices of the Attorney General and Chief Justice, stating that the Minister of Justices should be the Legal Advisor to the President while the Attorney-General should be an independent prosecutor free from partisan politics and is Ghanaians’ own lawyer who exudes fair justice and decides who goes to court and who doesn’t. This he believes will curb a lot of the mishaps in the country at the moment where undeserving personalities can swerve the law and benefit from state funds which they do not deserve in the face of serious unavailability of jobs for graduates, malaria related deaths, poor road networks, unpaid NYEP allowances, increment in petrol and petrol products, high cost of living.
Dr. Nduom went on to challenge the students to assess all the three parties’ flagbearers ie. PPP, NPP and NDC and tell who is best fit for the job in terms of achievements, past performance in governance and family life, and they will find out that “Edwumawura” is best for the job. This is because with the help of God he and his family have been able to provide jobs for over 3000 Ghanaians majority of whom are graduates from our tertiary institutions.
The new executives of Progressive Youth Movement from the University of Cape and Cape-Coast Polytechnic were sworn in by the interim National Youth Cordinator, Mr. Divine Nkrumah. Mr. Nkrumhah asked the students to work assiduously to the best of their abilities to recruit more people and increase the membership of the PPP, which will eventually translate into visible votes come 7th December 2012.
Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom was accompanied by the Interim National Youth Cordinator, Mr Divine Nkrumah, Ms. Freda Owusu Ansah, member of the National Women’s Committee, Mr. Kofi Asamoah, Interim National Secretary and Cape Coast Constituency and Regional Executives of the party.
