He said by these other ways journalists and others working with them could be better paid and their conditions of service improved. Mr Bedzra was speaking in Ho, at the 2015 end-of-year soiree for journalists.


The MP has consistently hosted journalists for the past five years to end of year soirees. Mr Bedzra said generally, the pay and conditions of service for journalists in the country was bad and not commensurate with responsibilities the career placed on them.

Mr Kwame Agbodza, MP for Adaklu observed the need for journalists to play their roles of analysis, correlation and surveillance more conscientiously to bring out the real state of issues.

He said journalists should not only focus on politics, but should consider more issues related to development. James Gunu, Akatsi-North District Chief Executive (DCE) expressed gratitude to journalists for striving over the year to bring out stories from deprived districts.

Anthony Kafui Kanyi, Acting Chairman of the Volta Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) urged his colleagues to resist being used as tools of newsmakers but should reflect more on the probing traits of a journalist.

Anthony Kafui Kanyi and Alberto Mario Noretti, Ghana News Agency (GNA) and Ghanaian Times respectively were honoured by Mr Bedzra for being journalist from the Volta Region in the list of GJA Award Winners 2015.
