Kylian Mbappe has flown to Paris to undergo further medical evaluations on his injured left knee, with Real Madrid confirming that surgical intervention is not being considered at this stage.

The French forward, 27, has been sidelined since late 2025 with an external ligament issue and missed last week’s Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League play-off second leg against SL Benfica. He is set to miss Madrid’s La Liga fixture against Getafe CF and his availability for the Round of 16 Champions League tie against Manchester City remains in doubt.

A statement from Mbappe’s representatives confirmed he is undergoing the evaluations alongside members of Real Madrid’s medical team. “In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee with the aim of optimising his follow-up care and preparing for his comeback. No surgical intervention is being planned at the moment,” the statement read.

Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa indicated the extended recovery period was a collective decision. “It was a bit of a consensus between everyone and we think the best thing is that he stops, that he recovers and comes back at 100%,” Arbeloa said. “It’s not going to be a question of days, it will be a bit longer, but I can’t say how long. Hopefully not too long.”

Mbappe joined Madrid on a free transfer in June 2024 following the expiry of his Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) contract. Despite the injury setback, he has been in remarkable form this season, scoring 38 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.
