Kwadwo Atuahene on his hospital bed at KATH

THERE WAS bloodshed at Sasa Bomso, a small town in the Kwabre West district of the Ashanti region on Sunday when a group of macho men attacked some residents of the town.

Several people including Nana Adu Agyeman, the Gyaasehene   and Joseph Kwadwo Atuahene, a member of the royal family, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were admitted at the emergency and accident center of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The macho men upon arrival in the town at about 9:00pm started beating anybody they saw after which they entered the palace and attacked the occupants. After the attack the hoodlums fled from the area in a vehicle.

Whereas some sustained cutlass wounds to the head, others were severely beaten which compelled them to seek medical care.

The macho men numbering about 20 were allegedly brought in by Nana Kofi Krah, the Odikro to discipline the people particularly the royals for thwarting his efforts to sell lands in the area.

Nana Krah, DAILY GUIDE gathered has earmarked some 300 plots for sale to interested developers but the townsfolk especially members of the royal family have prevented him from doing so.

Information reaching the paper indicates that members of the royal family are preventing the Odikro from selling the lands because they do not understand why should be doing so when the town has a substantive chief.

Furthermore, some residents claimed proceeds from land sales were not being used for their benefit.

When contacted on phone, Nana Krah denied the allegation saying he could not have organized the attack because he was not even in the town when the incident occurred.

The paper was told that the existence of the chief and the Odikro has brought about instability in the small town for the past seven years sometimes degenerating into bloody incidents.

As per the dictates of Ashanti custom, the Odikro is installed to preside over the affairs of a town when there is no substantive chief.
