DHAKA — A devastating fire broke out in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar, one of the largest wholesale marketplaces in the city, on Sunday night, and firefighters are trying to douse the blaze gutting hundreds of shops.

JAKARTA — Military chiefs and foreign ministers from Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia are to meet in Indonesia on May 5 in an effort to step up maritime security as the threat of piracy is escalating in the region, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on Sunday.

MANILA — Ten Indonesian kidnapped victims were freed by the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group on Sunday in southern Philippine province of Sulu, local police said.

NEW DELHI — A massive forest fire is raging in the hilly regions of India’s northern state of Uttarakhand and has damaged huge stretches of forest, officials said Sunday.
