Laika has announced their new project and its stellar cast members. The studio, which is behind ?The Boxtrolls?, said on Monday, December 22 that they would be working on a new animated feature called ?Kubo and the Two Strings?. It will be the directorial debut of Laika President and CEO Travis Knight.

Written by Chris Butler and Marc Haimes (?ParaNorman?), the animated feature set in a mythical ancient Japan will focus on scruffy, kindhearted Kubo who embarks on an adventure against a spirit from the past who catches up with him to enforce an age-old vendetta. A magical suit of armor once worn by his father, the greatest samurai the world has ever known, will be the key to his survival.

Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes and Brenda Vaccaro were announced as the voice cast. Art Parkinson, who plays Rickon Stark on ?Game of Thrones?, will voice the titular character.

?Kubo? which will use ?innovative 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid technique? is set to be released in the U.S. August 19, 2016 by Focus.
