Price Fm

WORKERS OF Price 107.3 FM, at Pankrono in Kumasi, including reporters, DJs and the news editor, have been rendered jobless.

This unpleasant news followed the decision by the station to part ways with its entire staff; a harsh order which took effect last Monday.

Four out of the about 35 workers of the station, who have appointment letters, have threatened to haul the station?s owner to court.

The station, owned by Bishop Columbus Appiah, a prominent man of God, started its operations over one year ago.

According to the sacked staffers, it was illegal for them to be sacked without any justification.

Kwaku Adu Gyamfi, news editor of the station, said if the station failed to recall them in a month?s time, they would seek redress in court.

According to him, he had an appointment letter and he had not breached any laws of the station, so he could not be sacked straightaway.

He stated that if the station wants to sack its staffers, it should do so in an acceptable manner by compensating the staffers, accordingly.

Adu Gyamfi told DAILY GUIDE that they were at the station working when Price FM?s board of directors popped up on Monday for a meeting.

During the meeting, he said, the board warned the station?s workers not to parade themselves as staffers of the station any longer.

They said the station would undergo a restructuring process for one month and recall its staffers shortly afterwards.

The station?s board further advised the workers who wanted to work at the station to write fresh employment letters for consideration.

Adu Gyamfi insisted that the board?s order to them to write employment letters for consideration meant that they had been sacked.

According to him, the approach of the station?s board to part ways with its staffers was not proper so they would fight for their rights in court.

He said so far as he was concerned he is a staff of the station would report to work after the one-month restructuring exercise of the station was over.
