About 2,000 members decamp to PDP

About 2,000 members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), at the weekend, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos.

The defectors were officially accepted by PDP leaders at their secretariat in Ikeja, where the stalwarts boasted about their party’s popularity among the Nigerian public.

A former security aide to Governor Babatunde Fashola, Abdulkareem Rafiu, who led the defectors, said PDP “would bring back the dream of Lagos.”

Former National Deputy Chairman, South-West, Olabode George and former Transport Minister, Ebenezer Babatope, received the defectors on behalf of the party.

George said he was pleased to know that many “people in the ranks of ACN are now seeing the light”.

Following the defection, many PDP members expressed confidence that the party would win the state at the next general elections.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Tunji Shelle, called for unity within the PDP to make it stronger.

“Let us move this party to a position in which the teeming masses of Lagos State, who have suffered so much can find succour,” he said.
