Proving that language is constantly evolving, publishers of the highly regarded Oxford English Dictionary plan to alter the definition of ?marriage? to reflect the recent legalization of same-sex marriage in England and Wales. The change will broaden the term beyond strictly ?man and woman? and follows in the footsteps of French and Canadian dictionaries, which have already expanded the definition after same-sex marriage laws were passed. According to Gay Star News, a spokesperson for the Oxford University Press said, ?We continually monitor the words in our dictionaries, paying particular [attention] to those words whose usage is shifting, so yes, this will happen with marriage.? Now they just need to atone for adding ?OMG? to the dictionary in 2011.?[Source]
