“We are making it easier for Chinese to visit South Africa and I have good news in that by the end of March we will be piloting an online application in Mandarin for Chinese visits to South Africa, it’s a great win for South Africa,” Bradley Brouwer, head of global trade at South African Tourism said.

“We’re going to make sure that Chinese feel more welcomed in South Africa. We are going to make sure that Chinese visit South Africa in large numbers. We’re going to bring tourism trade to South Africa,” he said.

The tourism department said it had listen to concerns about a lack of security. “We are also going to make sure that safety and security is acknowledged and taken care of.”

The online application came after Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane visited Beijing in 2019.

During the visit, the minister said the department was ready to welcome Chinese tourists. She also signed an agreement with Tencent which would assist in luring Chinese to South Africa. Enditem
