The agreement for the construction of the plant which will cost about 55 million U.S. dollars, was signed on Thursday by the Malian government, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), European company Scatec Solar and a local developer, Africa Power 1.

Mali’s Minister for Energy and Water Mamadou Frankaly Keita said the plant will be constructed within the next 12 months.

“This important project will increase energy supply and guarantee better living conditions for Malians and our companies,” he added.

Mali’s Economy and Finance Minister Mamadou Igor Diarra and director general of Scatec Solar Raymond Carlsen reiterated that “such a solar power plant had never been constructed before in West Africa.” Enditem
