Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will make a two-day working visit to Senegal, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

In a statement, the ministry said Mahathir will attend the Third International Conference on the Emergence of Africa (ICEA) which will be held in Senegal’s capital Dakar from Jan. 16 to 17 and is scheduled to have bilateral meeting with the Senegal President Macky Sall.

“The highlight of the Prime Minister’s attendance at the third ICEA would be the High Level Panel Discussion which will take place after the ICEA Opening Ceremony on Jan. 17.”

“The Prime Minister is also scheduled to have bilateral meeting with the President of Senegal to discuss matters of mutual interest with the objective of enhancing bilateral ties as well as collaboration on pertinent regional and global issues,” the statement said.

Total trade between Malaysia and Senegal in 2017 was 372.6 million ringgit (86.5 million U.S. dollars), with Malaysia’s exports amounting to 364.5 million ringgit (84.6 million U.S. dollars) and imports from Senegal worth 8.1 million ringgit (1.87 million dollars).

Malaysia’s main exports to Senegal are palm oil and palm-based products while main imports from Senegal are cotton, fertilizers and minerals and chemical products. Enditem
