The company’s Chief Executive Officer Christoph Mueller, along with the senior management and MAB staff, held a special walkabout from Monday through Tuesday at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to greet passengers, marking the beginning of the new national carrier.

“We are very excited to welcome today, the start of our new company. We have been working hard for the past months to ensure a smooth and successful transition and we would like to thank our customers and airline partners for their continued support during this period,” Mueller said.

An 89.8 percent on-time performance was recorded by the airline on Tuesday, making its first operational day under the new company smooth.

The twin tragedies of flights MH370 and MH17 in 2014 put great pressure on the Malaysian national carrier, which has started a fall even before the accidents.

Mueller announced a three-phase turn-around plan in June, which will see a new Malaysia Airlines company to be incorporated, its work force to be cut by one-third, and some of its long-haul fleet and routes to be cut. Enditem
