With a rise in demand for face masks and hand sanitizers in Malawi, Minister of Trade and Industry Salim Bagus has warned against overpricing of sanitation and hygiene supplies amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The minister made the warning while visiting some pharmacies in Lilongwe, the capital city, noting that some pharmacy operators were selling such supplies at three times the normal prices.
Such practices cannot be tolerated, especially during the fight against the spread of COVID-19, he said.
Bagus said he has directed officials to take appropriate steps and penalize offenders.
Malawi, which has so far reported 16 confirmed COVID-19 cases and two deaths, is scheduled to put in force a national lockdown on Saturday. Enditem
