The former footballer died on May 4

NFF Boss, Aminu Maigari

The President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Aminu Maigari is expected to lead a high power delegation to the eighth day Fidau prayers to be held for the late Nigerian striker, Rashidi Yekini, in his family compound in Ira, Kwara State.

Expected to accompany the President are his first Vice president, Chief Mike Umeh, Nff Match Commissioners’ Appointment Chairman, Kunle Adesiyun and the Kwara FA Chairman Busari Ishola.

Also on the team are Executive Committee members, High Chief Emeka Inyama and Dr. Shehu Adamu along with the Personal Assistant to the NFF President, Nasiru Jibril.

The former African Footballer of the Year passed away in Oshogbo, Osun State on Friday, May 4.

There have however been claims from several quarters that the NFF abandoned Rashidi Yekini when he needed help, but Maigari has refuted such claims, describing them as incorrect.

“It is incorrect to say that the NFF abandoned the late football hero. We made several efforts to reach him, and even announced it in the media sometime last year that we were looking for him. We went beyond that to send several persons to Yekini but he just didn’t want to have anything to do with anybody, apparently,” he said.

“Those who are talking know the truth. They also know that no NFF administration has done as much as we have to bring to the fold colleagues of late Yekini in the Super Eagles and other ex-international players. This is a fact.”
