The Provost, Federal College of Education, Osiele Abeokuta, Dr. Adebayo Ayodele Ajayi, has lamented low number of qualified and certified teachers in both public and private schools in the country. According to him, this had been responsible for the decline in education standard in Nigeria.
Ajayi made this known while briefing newsmen on the activities lined up for the college’s 23rd convocation ceremony and 39th Founder’s Day, held at the college auditorium.
Speaking further, the Provost explained that Colleges of Education were established to train and produce middle level teachers for primary and junior secondary schools in the country, pointing out that unless certified teachers are employed, education will continue to suffer unnecessary set back.
