The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been directed by GRiDCO to shed 40 megawatts of power as it starts a load shedding exercise.

This directive comes after the Volta River Authority (VRA) gave indications of the commencement of a load shedding exercise of electricity in Ghana.

The exercise, which will last for some months, started on Monday.

The Head of Operations at ECG, Mr. Tettey Okine, told Citi News the shedding will affect only parts of Accra.

He said: “We will only shed 40 megawatts, but I don’t how they will do the distribution but most likely it will affect only Accra. ”

“The quantum of power being requested for in Accra only is almost 400 megawatts. Earlier on we made an announcement about certain areas that they shouldn’t cover all those areas and initially what we were told the figure has reduced. ”
