Airtel Trace Music Star presented an impressive array of highly talented young artists competing for top prizes in the Final Round of its maiden edition of the innovative music talent show. Linda Goraseh, a 23 years old graduate of the University of Ghana was adjudged Winner of maiden edition and took GHS50, 000 home.

They were Angela, the passionate performer who sung her own rendition of John Legends All of me, the feisty Cassandra who performed, energetically, David Guetta?s Titanium, Princess who sweetly sung a Mariah Carey song and the only guy in the competition, Francis who sounded very much like Ghana?s dancehall maestro Samini . 23 years old Linda blew the judges away with her excellent performance of Alexandar Burkes? Hallelujah. The judges were most impressed about how she handled a song with such high vocal chords and commented that she had really raised the bar, as the opening act of the competition. She also managed to topple the others over with her graceful appearance; she wore a beautiful blue dress with gold details that was simply stunning.
The decision was based on public voting and the competitors? final performance which was adjudged by three highly experienced and talented stalwarts of the music and entertainment industry in Ghana; Edem and Raquel both well-known and accomplished musicians as well as Kafui Dey, ace television and radio personality.
?The talent of our finalist was staggering,? said Donald Gwira, Head of Corporate Communications, Airtel Ghana. ?Our finalists are truly destined for stardom and the talent of the participants blew everyone away! Especially inspiring was the tremendous camaraderie among the participants that was evident throughout the contest.? This initiative is a true manifestation of Airtel?s commitment to unleash the potential amongst our youth to enable them achieve their dreams.?
“The level of competition was remarkable, truly remarkable”, says Kafui Dey. “It was also unique in that there were so many individual voices. There were no generic performances,” he continues. “It was inspiring, and also very moving. That’s all that really matters to me – the goose bump factor, and I got lots of them.?
?This competition has been the most rewarding, exhilarating volunteer position I have ever held,? says Judges Raquel and Edem. ?We have gained such respect for these talented, dedicated young singers. An individual?s voice is such an integral part of their being, and they courageously put their voice ?out there? to be judged and found worthy. They have our total and complete admiration.?
?We were delighted that Ghanaians embraced this new world class competition, evidenced by how the public filled the foyer of The World Trade Center to applaud the work of some of the nation?s most talented singers,? said Manu Rajan, Marketing Director, Airtel Ghana. ?The feedback and support from the community has been overwhelming. ?It?s clear that there is a huge audience for outstanding music.? Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs at Airtel Ghana, Donald Gwira, spoke about the uniqueness of Airtel Trace Music Star Competition. “As usual, it?s very high level, but “It’s the transition between being a child and being an adult artist. We are the only competition in the world that works with this age group. Here they can compete at an international level, meet each other and share experiences,” he continues.
Linda, in addition to a cash prize of 50,000, represents Ghana in Kenya to run for the title of best African Music Talent with eleven other African countries. The overall grand prize comprises a recording deal with international artist Akon. Live, a distributed label through Universal Music Group, and an intense mentorship programme with Akon in the United States of America. Linda stated that ?am grateful to the organizers of this competition for making my dream of a successful music career come true, I am truly humbled by this honor done me.?
