Trouble appears to be mounting for former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Freddie Blay, after police finally arrested him in connection with an alleged case of property destruction that has been under investigation for over a year.

Blay’s arrest follows a bench warrant issued by the Akropong Circuit Court after he reportedly failed multiple times to honour police invitations and appear before the court during the course of the investigation.

The case originated from a complaint filed by a landowner at Kitase in the Akuapem area, who alleged that unknown individuals had destroyed an ongoing building project on his land.

Police investigations led to the arrest of five suspects who were allegedly clearing the property with heavy equipment. One of the suspects reportedly told investigators that the demolition was carried out on the instructions of Blay and another individual identified as Nana Osae Ntifo I.

Nana Osae Ntifo I was later arrested near a police station, but Blay reportedly failed to cooperate with authorities despite being invited to assist with investigations.

Following legal processes and a review of the case by the Attorney General’s Office of Ghana, prosecutors advised police to proceed with the charges against the suspects.

Even after the accused persons were formally charged and arraigned on February 5, 2026, Blay reportedly did not appear in court, leaving the bench warrant in force until his eventual arrest.

The former NPP chairman is now expected to be transferred to the Koforidua Police for further legal action and a possible appearance before the court in the coming days.
