The Bia Lamplighter College of Education in Sefwi Debiso, in the Bia West District, in the newly created North Western Region, has been inaugurated.

At the ceremony, Dr Samuel Agyemang, formerly of Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL), was inducted as the first principal; and 421 students were matriculated.

Dr Augustine Tawiah, Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, and MP for Bia West Constituency, briefing journalists in Accra, on the three events, underlined the importance of teachers in the human resource and capacity development in the quest for accelerated development.

The college was established about 15 years ago, and the MP, who was very instrumental in the establishment, urged the teacher trainees to make maximum use of the facilities available in the college and come out with skills that would enhance their professionalism.

The school, he said, is aimed at becoming a world class and distinguished center of excellence for preparing world class teachers.

Dr Agyemang appealed to stakeholders to support the college in its efforts.
