The Akim Asene branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has undertaken a clean-up exercise in the area to mark the church’s “All African Helping Hands Day of Service.”

The National Public Affairs Council of the Church in West and South East Africa has instituted an annual Day in August to teach non-members of the church the example of Jesus Christ through community service.

The people swept markets, cleaned gutters, weeded overgrown bushes and cleared rubbish at Akim Asene in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region and this attracted a massive participation.

Mr Richard Awuku, the Akim Asense branch President, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the exercise also served as an opportunity for church members to propagate the gospel to the people.

He urged the congregation to exhibit the enthusiasm shown in the exercise in subsequent events to improve sanitation and health as well as the spiritual upliftment of the people.
