The land owners of Atuabo in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region have filed a writ at the Sekondi High Court restraining the officials of Lonrho from executing the Atuabo Free Port project.

The Paramount Chief of Aiwieso Traditional Area, Kaku Aka III, told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that the Lonrho officials had not paid any compensation for the land and crops, therefore the project would not be allowed until the right thing is done.

He said although the traditional authorities were not against the project since it would create employment for the youth and open up the area for more investment.

The Chief of Anochie, Nana Anochie IV, told the GNA that the land was bequeathed to them by their ancestors, therefore the present and future generations must protect and benefit from it as well.

Meanwhile, five Members of Parliament last month also filed a writ at the Sekondi High Court questioning the legitimacy of the project, arguing that the project would prevent the expansion of the Takoradi port.
