Accra, February 28, 2012: The second edition of the much anticipated 5KM FUN RUN is set to gets hearts racing on Independence Day. The marathon which is being organized by Lakeside Marina Group and Happy FM will commence at 6am prompt at the Lakeside Marina Park, Ashalley Botwe in East Legon.

Open to the general public, the Run is meant to serve as an alternate for individuals and families when it comes to working out and living a healthy lifestyle. As the name implies, participants are encouraged to enjoy the experience and not view it as the tedious means by which people can stay fit and in shape.

Charles Osei-Asibey of Happy FM commented that “We are always excited when we work on a project that brings the community together. This is a double bonus for us because we get to work with the community and for a great cause. Health and exercise are co-dependent and we hope to increase and sustain this awareness through initiatives like this. We also want to dispel the myth that working out is difficult or unbearable. You can always have fun whilst working out and that is what the Fun Run is all about.”

The event will challenge participants with its various award categories to go the extra mile, literally, to win. Awards like the fastest runner, fastest family, fastest CEO amongst others will be given to the winning participants.

Registration is still open to the general public with forms available at Silver Star Tower, Koala Shopping Centre, Pippa’s Gym, Lakeside Marina Park and Happy FM. This year’s marathon is being supported by Japan Motors, Oman Forfor, SilverStar Property, Pippa’s Gym, Nestle Milo, Royal Richester and Digital Innovations. Happy FM, YFM, eTV Ghana, Daily Guide, 90 Minutes and Sports Fylla are the  media partners for the run.
