The Brong-Ahafo Regional Anti-Bushfire Committee said on Tuesday that lack of funding is hindering efforts in controlling bushfires in the region.

It said at a meeting in Sunyani that because of lack of funding, the committee could not undertake its monitoring and supervisory roles last season.

The committee is made up of representatives from Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, National Disaster Management Organisation, Ghana Armed Forces, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana News Agency and Information Services Department.

Mr Gabriel Apae-Nyelom, Acting Chairman of the committee, expressed worry that the anti-bushfire taskforce formed by the committee had remained dormant because there was no money for them to discharge their duties.

He appealed to the municipal and district assemblies to facilitate the reactivation the various anti-bushfire committees.

He said without immediate funding, the committee would not be able to implement its action plans this season and appealed to stakeholders to support the committee.
